ebay
Design for the eBay annual report working directly with Meg Whitman. Using creative ways to print, die cut and bind the book was a flip book so the viewer could read it any way they wanted. The cover was a spinning dial visually highlighting the different relationships ebay is a part of creating. It was playful and energetic and eBay was thrilled. A crisp clean pocket with the tag line happy shopping! in the back held the financials.
Hanson Crawford Crum Family Law Group
Exploration for new logo (see logo work) and brand was the use of letterpress and foil stamping. Ultimately we used foil stamping and letterpress on a soft white paper stock for the full business system, lending itself to a lighter equally sophisticated look and feel. The use of these classic 1OO year old high end printing processes and strong brand awareness establishes a sense of a quality in the brand messaging that's newly recognized in the law industry and important for the savviest professionals.
Sterigenics
Annual report for company that sterilized meat products and cosmetics through radiation. It was challenging for the company to find visuals that weren t off putting to the readers. The design we developed was to align their company with the work of such scientific greats as Louis Pasteur and work he did on the pasteurization of milk. We directed a custom photo shoot. The title of the report was called Power in Science , a title we came up with and the focus of the CEO letter followed our design direction messaging.
The Innocence Project
First year of event branding for this annual dinner for the New York based non profit organization that exonerates Innocent Prisoners. Prior brand images were shackles and prison letters and I felt they would be better served for the dinner to focus on the freedom and hope the organization brings. Accordion fold images of birds flew across this invite (along with several other event materials developed) and the names of the individuals and their years served in prison was screened in the background of the side panels. The event raised over 1M dollars, well over expected and the brand elements became a staple to the organization dinners.
Hoppe Tax
Business system and custom tax forms for savvy CPA firm recognized for its forward thinking. Both printed and online tax documents, as well as website, use newly developed logo (see logo work) and brand assets for a sophisticated look. This kind of strong brand presence has become more common for the savviest professionals in the accounting and law industries.
Memorial Collection
This was a special assignment to design a graphic piece that would honor a woman who had donated a collection of beautiful books to a library in the Los Angeles area. I proposed the idea of a unique bookplate one that would wrap around the cover page (rather than on it as they typically do). We chose some exquisite photographs highlighting great works of art and architecture (as this was both her love and the area of the collection) The graphic the reader saw on the first page was the full photo, and as you turned the page, the woman s name and a section of the prior photo was elegantly displayed for reflection.
Big Ideas Fest postcard
This is a Save the Date postcard for one of the many Big Ideas Fest events I've worked on. (see Big Ideas Fest Event Branding work) ISKME enjoys playful and conceptual design which I enjoy creating. Writing was included to strengthen the design concept.

I believe the strongest design and branding begins with working with an art director that can team with the right people offering the best technology.
2Bridge Communications
After designing a logo and business system (see logo and printed materials) several design directions and user interface styles were explored for this boutique PR company before we landed on the final design direction. After the new logo design was done we launched immediately into simplifying this clients four websites into one clean, good looking site with logical navigation and powerful reference tools for both new and existing customers. This work was an example of how design can influence an entirely new business model, in this case a visual and psychological unification of all the many services my client offers her customers.

Truly JKA Design in its beauty, creative embrace and warm welcome. A joy to create.
Pouch Maps Product
After developing logo and business system (see logo and printed materials) we continued into designing the product itself, being a pocket sized foldable map. The unique illustration style we landed on for the business system felt like just the right mood for the product. Illustration art direction was sketched out for each individual cover (5 cities) working with the custom illustrator we found outside of Chicago, highlighting various well known features of each city.
Rorshock Game
Partnering with a writer we designed a fun family card game. Ink blots all original art to guide into understanding your inner thoughts (or at least having a good time trying). Sold to a distributor and marketed in stores.

The custom production could be done in small runs creating a high-end individualized bottling feel rather than the factory feel and costs of large run packaging minimums.
I-beam Broadcasting
Presented with the prospect of designing an unforgettable-will not want to throw it away-invitation for a product launch party for I-beam Broadcasting, we presented them with an idea of actually slicing pieces of structural I-beam, polishing them and branding them with the company logo. To my surprise they went with it. So after purchasing 5 pounds of I-beam, with a pressing deadline, we directed the polishing and branding of the steel while designing a keepsake box for it, a slick invitation and a unique die cut metal event badge. I love the use of different materials so working with the die cutter for the badge and metal wrap was fantastic. We went on to create some simple promotional pieces for them using the same cut metal idea. The client was thrilled and the event was a great success.I believe design can really help drive the momentum of excitement and largess for an event, and this felt like one of those times.
Culture Sock
After developing a playful energetic brand for an innovative sock company (see logo design) we moved onto packaging the socks themselves. Working with overseas vendor specifications we created a playful custom label for each sock style.

San Francisco Public Library
An invitation for a family fundraising event for the San Francisco public library. The idea was conceived out of the event title Doorways to Adventure and used playful design techniques, like die cut windows to reveal the event information, much like an advent calendar, to evoke the idea of a doorway opening. The text was written in the round as if you were being drawn through the door of the event from the on set of the invitation. The text was written as the design developed to strengthen the concept behind the design. There were keys for the event itself using treasure hunt style copy and led the participants to different sections of the library.

Jack London Square Mockup
Mock up for the Jack London square development branding project. See Jack London Square Installation images of the final product.
Jack London Square Installation
Jack London Square was desperately in need of some window panels for their vacant retail spaces. Transforming windows that used to allow someone to see deserted spaces full of debris, into a strong branded element for JLS, felt like a a huge success for the development. More than 85 panels went up, and made the enormous development feel alive and vibrant for both existing, as well as prospective, tenants wherever you were walking. The creation and installment allowed for easy transfer of panels into new spaces as needed with any occupancy changes, allowing the development to never again have an empty and or under utilized window. Originally brought into JLS to create an event poster, we made a long standing unexpected impact on the space, illustrating how strong design can effect a business and their trust in me to widen the scope of design work so dramatically.

Computer Gaming World
Playful promotional piece for Computer Gaming World trade show give away. Set of 4 coasters delivered in a safety sealed petri dish playing off the idea of being genetically predisposed to gaming.
Abbey Vineyard
Logo and packaging for boutique winery in Pasa Robles, CA. Working with local vendors we were able to create a small run of custom labels using letterpress and foil stamp process on soft elegant paper.

Project image cards, with descriptions, were in the package, as a well as a set of custom coasters created using super close up of his projects. Welcome Home, read at the bottom of this special gift.

Chevron
Online email blasts are a common requirement of large company marketing. In this case, working with Chevron brand guidelines I create a Save the date email for an International Aids Conference. (working through Wilson West Events)
ISKME
The Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education ("ISKME") hosts an annual event called the Big Ideas Fest. ISKME has a high standard for design which I deeply appreciate and they have continuously pushed me year after year to create a beautiful custom brand for them. The design scope involves branding the event with save the date email announcements, online and printed invitations, event programs, signage, posters, power point presentations, all the way through to, custom buttons that can be collected as you move through the event.
LinkedIn Event Assets
Working with Gorin Events I provided artwork for a variety of LinkedIn corporate event assets. This work requires following brand guidelines and working with vendors for a seamless process often deadline driven. I provide similar services for ongoing event asset work with Chevron and Samsung (through Wilson West Events).
Big Ideas Fest postcard
This is a Save the Date postcard for one of the many Big Ideas Fest events I've worked on. (see Big Ideas Fest Event Branding work) ISKME enjoys playful and conceptual design which I enjoy creating. I think having a story behind your design is what makes it more powerful and memorable. I especially love working to make a design memorable, no matter the scope of work.
Creative Invitation
A "no budget idea" to create a bow tie shaped paper with string attached for a bow tie optional party. The design carried through to the event itself, as people were instructed to wear the invite and create the "no budget theme for the party.
Ronald McDonald House
Brand development and Event materials for fundraising dinner for this non profit organization that houses families in San Francisco while their children are undergoing serious medical treatments. Rather than relying on images of children undergoing treatment, commonly seen in the organizations materials, we focused on the universal family values wherever your home is defined and whatever your family circumstances.
Veterinary Wellness Center Signage
Signage for the new Veterinary Wellness Center offices. Signage spanned over four locations and unified the offices into one brand. (See Veterinary Wellness logo and printed materials)
Calvary Presbyterian Church
Developed series of signage and posters for this non profit religious organization that reflected the creative and vibrant messaging they wanted for their staff and extended community.
Hoppe Tax
Designing Hoppe Tax document cover for online viewing and digital signing. This kind of strong brand presence has become expected for the savviest in any industry, but in accounting it's innovative. Carrying through your brand in all assets makes for the foundation of a great company.
ISKME email news
Each week a custom email blast, following a 52 card deck, is sent to followers of ISKME s big event in December with the event branding and a tip to think about, as you carry the events work into your daily life.

Big Ideas email event marketing
The Big Ideas event brand had an online reach from the save the date card to the closing followup. Building a brand or event that can follow through into the online materials is critical to current lines of communication and outreach.
